BIOGRAPHY

Bill Pruitt was born in Kansas City, MO. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting/drawing, he pursued a career in painting portraits and fine art. At this time in 1987, he did an inspired painting of action star Sylvester Stallone and ended up selling it to him after contacting him with a little luck and has sold 10 paintings to Stallone since then including one recently in August, 2013.

In 1991, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his painting
career. He was enticed by the beautiful weather. Since then, he has had numerous gallery showings. He's done endless commission paintings ranging from pet portraits, family portraits, honorable judges to lifesize murals of Clint Eastwood and Jimi Hendrix which decorate the walls of the iconic Malibu Inn restaurant in Malibu, CA. He's also had his work published in books and magazines like his Marilyn Monroe paintings in a book called "Marilyn in Art" (Pop Art Books Publishing) and was personally hired by Sylvester Stallone to illustrate 2 issues of his own magazine entitled "SLY". Bill also worked as a resident artist at Universal City Walk doing his own paintings and selling prints of his work. He paints whatever inspires him at the moment and he never runs out of ideas for a new painting. He paints everything from interesting and admirable people to animals, vintage cars and the human figure but people are his favorite subject.

To add uniqueness to his paintings, Bill hides the names of his subjects somewhere in the paintings. For example, "SLY" is hidden in all the paintings of Sylvester Stallone, "THE DUKE" in the John Wayne paintings, "THE KING" in Elvis, etc. Bill is continuously  experimenting with his painting and exploring new techniques and textures. For example, he recently did a 5 ft by 4 ft painting of Rambo on a very textured surfaced comprised of torn up bent pieces of cardboard glued down to the canvas. It was so interesting and unique, Sylvester Stallone purchased it to add to his collection. As of late, Bill has been working bigger and bigger making his next project on canvas 6 ft tall by 5 ft wide. Stay tuned.

The artist lives and works in the Studio City area of California.
